Andrews McMeel Universal was founded in 1970 as Universal Press Syndicate by Jim and Kathleen Andrews and John and Susan McMeel. Originally a comic strip syndicate, the company grew to include distribution and publication of magazines, books, calendars, and printed novelties. In 2004, the company released and distributed The Psychic Cup, a symbol cup and saucer set by Kim Allen. The cup reflected the publishing orientation of Andrews McMeel in that it was accompanied by a detailed book of instructions.
