It has always amused me that although tea comes from China, very few fortune telling cup and saucer set come from China. This is because the art of tea leaf reading seems to have originated in Scotland, strange as it may seem.
The Genevieve Wimsatt Chinese symbol cup was made in Ohio, USA. Additionally, all six variants of the Cup of Knowledge sold at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 - 1925, although their booklet looks quite Chinese, were made in England.
Until the beginning of the 21st century, no fortune telling cups were made in China. However, in 2001 the Jane Lyle Cup of Destiny, a copy or knock-off of the British Nelros Cup of Fortune marketed by Barnes and Noble, was manufactured there, and this was followed in 2018 by the Killstar line and in 2020 by the Rogue and Wolf Ouija Mug.
