Courtney Lock was a pottery designer located in Great Kills, New York. This symbol cup and saucer in the art deco style is the only known tasseomantic set released by the company.

The cups are back stamped

U.S. PAT.
COURTNEY
LOCKE
GT. KILLS, N.Y.
MADE IN
U.S.A.

To date, no instruction sheet or booklet for this set has turned up, but because it is a symbol cup, it is most likely that one was supplied with each purchase.

The clay body for this cup formed a relatively weak bond with the glaze and therefore pouring hot tea into these cups and saucers may produce crackling or crazing, as seen in the final image on this page.
